Verdigris Valley Art Exhibit 2024

The Verdigris Valley Art Exhibit is one of the premiere art exhibits in this area of south east Kansas. The VVAE is going into its 70th year and will take place June 14 - June 27. Prizes will be given to 1st place in each category, 2nd place in each category, best in show and people’s choice, with artwork for sale.

EXHIBITION DATES: June 14 – June 27, 2024

PLACE: Independence Historical Museum & Art Center, 123 N. 8th St., Independence, KS.

REGISTRATION DATES & TIMES: Entries received June 6-8, 2024 from 10 am to 3 pm (unless other arrangements are made – call/text 620-330- 7597 or email kym.kays@gmail.com.)

CRITIQUE & RECEPTION: Friday, June 14 at 7 pm the judge will provide feedback on the first-place winners of each category. Reception with refreshments, opportunity to view the art, and visit with the judge as well as exhibiting artists.

PICK UP DATES & TIMES: June 28-29, 2024 from 10 am to 3 pm Entries are required to stay up throughout the duration of the exhibit.

GALLERY HOURS: Tuesday – Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm (closed Sunday & Monday). Special tours may be arranged.

PRIZES:

  • Best of Show: $250

  • 1 st Place: $200 (awarded in categories with 5 or more entries)

  • 2 nd Place: $100 (awarded in categories with 5 or more entries)

  • People’s Choice: $200 (based on votes tabulated at the end of the exhibit).

  • Additional Honorable Mention ribbons may be awarded per the judge’s discretion.

IHMAC reserves the right to photograph entries that may be used on its website, social media sites or other publications.

CATEGORIES: • Oil & Acrylic • Watercolor • Mixed Media • Drawing (Pencil/Pen, Pastel & Charcoal) • 3-Dimensional (Sculpture & Ceramics)

ENTRY FEE: First entry is $15, additional entries $10/each, limit of 5 entries per category.

ELIGIBILITY: ORIGINAL artwork only, not previously entered in the Verdigris Valley Art Exhibit. Any entry copies from the public domain (Internet, calendars, etc.) will not be considered for an award. Minimum Age: 18 yrs. Students under 18 may participate in the annual spring art exhibit for youth sponsored by IHMAC. All entries must be ready for display.

Paintings and drawings must be framed, ready for hanging with screw eyes and wire. Please, NO SAWTOOTH HANGERS for the safety of the art! Each entry must have a label fastened to the back with the following information: • Title of Entry • Name & Address of Artist • Category & Medium of Entry • Price (if entry is for sale)

Independence Historical Museum & Art Center reserves the right to decline any artwork that does not meet the community standards. (Policy is available upon request.)

* IHMAC charges a 20% commission on all sales. Extreme care will be taken in the handling of entries; however, IHMAC will not be responsible in case of loss or damage.
